Years of public debate have made us all keenly aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. As a result, we all understand that we should eat plenty of fruit and vegetables... reduce our alcohol intake… stop smoking… exercise regularly...

Easy ways to improve your everyday comfort

The MULTICOMFORT design concept is all about building and renovating our homes, offices, hospitals and schools in a way that results in greater levels of comfort, health and wellbeing.

But even if we’re not undertaking a major construction or renovation project, there are many small steps we can all take every day to improve our environment, our health and our overall sense of wellbeing.

Consider thick curtains, wall hangings and carpets. On single-glazed windows, you could add a transparent window film to reduce heat loss.

Draughts can often be found around windows or under external doors. Simple draught-proofing measures can really help. But don’t block your ventilation.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the most eective. If night-time noise keeps you awake, earplugs could be all you need (just remember to set your alarm loud enough).

Keep your room cool to sleep better

A bedroom that is too hot or too cold can interfere with sleep quality. Most people sleep best in a slightly cool room (around 18°C) with adequate ventilation.

Use natural air fresheners

Commercial air fresheners can contain harmful pollutants. Rather than spraying chemicals to freshen your home, consider natural alternatives – such as essential oil diffusers.

Sleep better with more daytime light exposure

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone, controlled by exposure to daylight, that helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle. Get more light during the day to sleep better at night.

Keep your home dry

Control relative humidity levels at under 60%, using dehumidifiers if necessary. Open a window when you take a shower or bath or while you have clothes on a drying rack.
